How to use it
A prayer or wish. Used when praying, writing an ema plaque, or wishing someone well.
- Attaches to the ます stem: 「合格しますように」「元気になりますように」. The sentence usually ends right at 「ように」, with nothing added.
- The negative uses 「ませんように」: 「雨が降りませんように」.
- The wish must be something outside one's own control (weather, luck, another person's health). For something you can do yourself, say 「~たい/~ようにする」.
Examples

I pray I can get a good score on tomorrow’s test.

Keep in mind
- Connects to the ます stem, not the dictionary form.
- The wish is something outside the speaker's control.

Something decided by oneself uses 「ようにする」, not a prayer.
