How to use it
The formal, written version of 「~ないで」. Commonly found in texts and narration.
- 「ずに」 = doing B without doing A: 「何も言わずに帰った」. Same meaning as 「ないで」 but a higher register.
- The one trap: 「する」 becomes 「せずに」, NOT 「しずに」.
- The form 「~ず(に)」 with 「に」 omitted also occurs in writing: 「知らず知らずのうちに」.
Examples
彼は何も言わずに部屋を出て行った。
He left the room without saying anything.
朝ご飯を食べずに家を出た。

Keep in mind
- する → せずに (irregular).
- Not used for a request — 「~ないでください」 has no 「ずに」 equivalent.
