How to use it
A Sino-Japanese word meaning "how/what". Depending on the ending attached, it becomes "depending on" or "regardless of".
- DEPENDING-ON group: 「Nいかんで(は)/いかんによって」 = varies depending on N — 「結果いかんでは、計画を変更する」.
- REGARDLESS-OF group: 「Nいかんにかかわらず/いかんによらず/いかんを問わず」 = regardless of how N turns out — 「理由のいかんにかかわらず」.
- The two groups have OPPOSITE meanings and differ only in the ending — exams exploit exactly this point, so you must read the whole ending before choosing.
