| Noun | 値段 → 値段のわりには |
|---|---|

| na-adjective | 不便 → 不便なわりには |
How to use it
Compares against the level one would expect and remarks that reality deviates from it. Milder than 「にしては」.
- 「AわりにB」 = compared to A, B is surprising: 「この料理は値段のわりにおいしい」.
- A noun connects with 「の」, a na-adjective connects with 「な」 — a catalog entry writing 「だわりには」 would be wrong.
- Different from 「にしては」 (N3-126): the standard for 「にしては」 must be a specific benchmark; 「わりに」 can also be used with a general degree (「年齢のわりに」「値段のわりに」).
Examples
彼はあまり勉強しないわりには、成績がいい。
For someone who barely studies, he gets good grades.
この料理は値段のわりに量が多い。
For the price, this dish comes in a large portion.
Keep in mind
- Nouns use 「の」, な-adjectives use 「な」.
- The second clause deviates from expectations.

Correctこの料理は値段のわりにおいしい。
