วิธีใช้
Proactively offers to do something for someone.
- ~ましょうか has two meanings distinguished by context. (1) Offering help: 荷物を持ちましょうか = "shall I carry your luggage?" — only I do it. (2) Invitation: 一緒に行きましょうか = "shall we go together?" — both do it. This pattern focuses on meaning (1).
- How to tell them apart: if there's 一緒に or the action is something both can do together, it's an invitation; if it's doing something FOR the other person (carrying things, opening a window, turning on a light), it's an offer of help.
- With someone of higher status, elevate it using humble language: お持ちしましょうか (allow me to carry it for you). This sentence goes over very well with bosses and customers.
- Context: with friends and peers, ~ましょうか is enough. With a boss/customer, お~しましょうか is far more polite.
