• 「それはそうと」 = that's that aside, but... The speaker deliberately SETS ASIDE the old topic: 「その話はまた今度。それはそうと、来週の件はどうなった？」.
• Different from 「ところで」 (a purely neutral topic change) in that 「それはそうと」 implies "that other matter isn't as important".
• Because it is slightly impolite, avoid using it with superiors; use 「ところで」 or 「話は変わりますが」 there instead.

  「それはそうと」 needs an ONGOING topic to set aside; right at a first greeting there is nothing yet to set aside, so it cannot be used here.
