How to use it
States a wish for SOMEONE ELSE to do something. The person being asked takes the particle 「に」.
- 「AにVてほしい」 = want A to do V: 「息子にもっと勉強してほしい」. The person doing the action takes 「に」, not 「が」.
- Different from 「Vたい」 (wanting to do it yourself): 「私が行きたい」 vs 「彼に行ってほしい」 — the subject of the action differs.
- Saying this directly to a superior is impolite; use 「~ていただきたいのですが」 or 「~ていただけませんか」 instead.
Examples
