How to use it
Assumes A and then asserts the conclusion still holds. Different from 「ても」 in that A is something that has NOT happened.
- 「~としても」 = even supposing A: 「雨が降るとしても、レースは中止しない」.
- Because it is hypothetical, it often pairs with 「たとえ」: 「たとえ失敗するとしても、挑戦したい」.
- Different from 「~ても」 (which can also be used for something that already happened): 「としても」 is always a hypothesis that hasn't become fact.
