How to use it
Wavering between doing and not doing something. The second clause is a verb expressing hesitation or decision.
- A fixed frame: the first clause is the VOLITIONAL FORM + 「か」, the second clause is 「まいか」 — repeating the same verb: 「行こうか行くまいか、迷っている」.
- 「まい」 connects to the dictionary form for Group I (行くまい), to the masu stem for Group II (受けまい); 「する」 has both 「するまい」 and 「すまい」.
- The second clause is usually 「迷う・悩む・決めかねる・まだ決めていない」 — not used to guess about someone else.
