วิธีใช้
เมมบาตาซี คาคุปัน, เมยยาตากัน ฟากตา เซการาเนทรัล.
- だけ limits scope and goes with an ordinary AFFIRMATIVE ending: 一人だけ来ました (only one person came).
- NEUTRAL nuance — it just states the fact, neither praising nor criticizing. This is the one but crucial difference from しか~ない (usually negative, "too little"). Same event: 「五分だけ待ちます」 (I'll wait just 5 minutes — that's my decision) vs 「五分しか待てません」 (I can only wait 5 minutes — not enough, impatient).
- だけ keeps most particles and stands BEFORE them: 「これだけが必要です」・「田中さんにだけ話しました」. As for を, it's usually placed after だけ: 「これだけを見てください」, but dropping を is also natural.
- With verbs, だけ creates the meaning "only doing ~": 「見るだけです」(just looking, not buying). This is an extremely common sentence when entering a shop.
ตัวอย่าง
パーティーには三人だけ来ました。
Only three people came to the party.
すみません、見るだけです。
Sorry, I'm just looking.
この店は日曜日だけ休みです。
This shop is closed only on Sundays.
ข้อควรจำ
- だけで = "just with ~ already": 見るだけで嬉しくなります (just looking at it already makes me happy).
- To express "not only ~ but also", use だけでなく (~だけじゃなくて in spoken language).
ข้อผิดพลาดที่พบบ่อย
-
ผิด一人がだけ来ました。
Only one person came.
ถูก一人だけ来ました。
だけ must stand RIGHT AFTER the noun, before が/を (「一人だけが」), it cannot be reordered as 「一人がだけ」 — wrong particle order.
-
ผิด財布に五百円がだけあります。
There is only 500 yen in the wallet.
ถูก財布に五百円だけあります。
だけ must come RIGHT AFTER the noun (五百円だけ), before が/を if present (五百円だけが); it can't be inverted into 「五百円がだけ」. To stress 'so little, not enough', use しか~ない.
