วิธีใช้
เพมบิการา (atau pihaknya) melakukan sesuatu yang menguntungkan orang lain.
- The trio あげる/くれる/もらう is the nightmare of Vietnamese learners, because Vietnamese only has one word "cho" (give). The one key: determine the DIRECTION of the action relative to the speaker.
- ~てあげる = an arrow going OUT from me (or my side: my family, my company) toward someone else. 「私は友達に日本語を教えてあげました」= I taught Japanese to my friend.
- AN EXTREMELY IMPORTANT NUANCE WARNING: ~てあげる implicitly says "I'm doing you a favor." Saying it directly to the recipient's face sounds like bragging, condescending. 「先生、荷物を持ってあげましょうか」sounds very impolite. With a superior or a stranger, don't use it — say 「お持ちしましょうか」or simply 「持ちましょうか」.
- So in practice, ~てあげる is mainly used when TELLING a third party about it, or with a close younger person/child.
- The form ~てさしあげます is honorific but still keeps the bragging nuance, so Japanese people almost always avoid it — knowing it for recognition is enough.

ข้อผิดพลาดที่พบบ่อย
-
ผิด先生、駅まで案内してあげましょうか。
Teacher, shall I show you the way to the station?
ถูก先生、駅までご案内しましょうか。/駅まで案内しましょうか。
With someone above you, ~てあげる sounds like doing them a favor — very impolite. Vietnamese learners make this mistake repeatedly because the equivalent Vietnamese phrase ("let me guide the teacher to the station") sounds completely polite. In Japanese, simply dropping あげる is polite enough.
-
ผิด友達は私に日本語を教えてあげました。
My friend taught Japanese to me.
ถูก友達は私に日本語を教えてくれました。
Wrong direction. An action moving TOWARD me must use くれる. あげる never has 私 as the recipient. This is the number one mistake Vietnamese learners make with the giving-receiving trio.
เทคนิคการสอบ
- Golden rule: 私に ~てあげる = WRONG. If you see 私 as the recipient, the answer must be くれる/もらう.
