• 「～といいなあ」 = I hope… would be nice. The hoped-for thing is usually decided by nature/other people: 「明日晴れるといいなあ」.
• To talk about something YOU YOURSELF can achieve, use 「～たらいいなあ」 or 「～たい」: 「合格できたらいいなあ」.
• 「なあ」 is an exclamatory particle; dropping it gives the neutral 「～といい」, or 「～といいですね」 when wishing someone else well.

  I hope it will be sunny tomorrow.

• 手術(しゅじゅつ)がうまくいくといいですね。

  I hope the surgery goes well.

ข้อผิดพลาดที่พบบ่อย

• ผิด晴(は)れますといいなあ。

  I wish it were sunny.

  ถูก晴(は)れるといいなあ。

  Before 「と」, use the plain form, not 「ます」.

• ผิด（自分(じぶん)の努力(どりょく)の話(はなし)）試験(しけん)に合格(ごうかく)するといいなあ。

  I hope I pass the exam.

  ถูก試験(しけん)に合格(ごうかく)できたらいいなあ。

  For something achieved through one's own effort, 「たらいいなあ」 sounds more natural.
