How to use it
States a MAJOR upcoming occasion and then what needs to be done. Formal written style, greetings.
- 「にあたり」 = on the occasion of/upon entering: 「新年にあたり、一言ご挨拶申し上げます」.
- The occasion must be something BIG and positive or formal (入学・開会・出発・就任) — not used for everyday trivial matters.
- 「にあたり」 is more literary than 「にあたって」. Do not confuse it with 「~に当たる」 (to correspond to, to hit/win).
