วิธีใช้
เมมบิการากัน ฮัล ยัง กาดัง-กาดัง เตร์จาดี, ทีดักเซริง.
- This pattern talks about FREQUENCY: something happens occasionally, not always. It looks at a present habit, not the past.
- A CRITICAL DISTINCTION from ~たことがある (N4-092): they differ in only one spot — the DICTIONARY form vs. the TA form — but the meaning is completely different. 電車が遅れることがあります = "the train is sometimes late" (about the present, frequency). 電車が遅れたことがあります = "I have experienced the train being late before" (about past experience). This is one of the most frequently confused pairs in N4.
- Because it's about frequency, this pattern very often pairs with adverbs: 時々, たまに, 月に一回ぐらい. With an adverb, the sentence's meaning is much clearer.
- The negative form ~ないことがある can also be used: 忙しい時は、昼ごはんを食べないことがあります (when I'm busy, there are times I don't eat lunch).
ตัวอย่าง
朝は人が多いので、電車が遅れることがあります。
In the morning many people ride the trains, so the train is sometimes late.
忙しい時は、昼ごはんを食べないことがあります。
When I am busy, there are times I do not eat lunch.
たまに友達と映画を見に行くことがあります。
Once in a while I go to see a movie with friends.
ข้อควรจำ
- The subject can be anyone/anything, not necessarily yourself — unlike ~たことがある, which usually talks about a specific person's experience.
- Not used for something that happens regularly. If it's the same every day, state it directly with いつも遅れます.
ข้อผิดพลาดที่พบบ่อย
-
ผิด私は時々、日本語を話すのことがあります。
I speak Japanese every day.
ถูก私は時々、日本語を話すことがあります。
~ことがある means "occasionally". A daily activity should be stated directly; using this pattern contradicts 毎日.
-
ผิด私は2015年に日本へ行くことがあります。
I went to Japan in 2015.
ถูก私は2015年に日本へ行きました。
There is a specific point in the past (2015年), yet ことがある is in the dictionary form (meaning 'sometimes, an ongoing habit') — the two meanings clash: an event FIXED in a specific year can't be something that 'still happens sometimes'. An event with a definite time is simply narrated with ~ました (even ~たことがある doesn't fit when there is a definite time — see N4-092); to talk about general experience with no time marker, say 日本へ行ったことがあります.
