How to use it
A space or someone's heart is FULL of something. Used for both physical things and emotions.
- 「Nでいっぱい」 = full of N. The particle MUST be 「で」 (marking what fills it): 「かばんが本でいっぱいだ」.
- Very natural for emotions too: 「頭がそのことでいっぱいだ」 (that's all that's on my mind), 「感謝でいっぱいです」.
- 「いっぱい」 also means “a lot” (「人がいっぱいいる」) and “one cup” (「コーヒーを一杯」) — distinguish by context and particle.
Examples
部屋が荷物でいっぱいだ。
The room is full of luggage.
皆さんへの感謝の気持ちでいっぱいです。
My heart is full of gratitude to all of you.
Keep in mind
- The particle is 「で」, not 「が」.
- Modifying a noun: 「荷物でいっぱいの部屋」.
Common mistakes
-
