วิธีใช้
มีนังกัป โทปิก ยัง บารู ดิสบุต ลาวัน บิการา ลาลู สมาชิก เพนดาพัท อาเตา ซารัน เทนทัง โทปิก อิตู.
- なら is quite different from the other three conditional patterns: it's not about cause and effect, but about picking up INFORMATION JUST HEARD as a topic and then commenting on it. That's why it almost always appears in dialogue, in the second turn of speech.
- Typical situation: A says 「北海道へ行きたいんですが…」, and B replies 「北海道なら、冬がきれいですよ」. B is saying: "speaking of Hokkaido...". This is the most natural way to give advice in Japanese.
- The key grammatical point that distinguishes it from たら: なら can express the second clause happening BEFORE the first clause. 「日本へ行くなら、パスポートを取ってください」= if you're (planning to) go to Japan, get a passport — getting the passport happens BEFORE going. Whereas with 「日本へ行ったら」, the other action happens AFTER arriving in Japan. No other pattern can do this.
- With nouns, なら attaches directly, without だ: 「学生なら」, not 「学生だなら」. This is where it differs from だったら.
- なら is also used to state a counterfactual assumption or to limit the scope: 「私なら、そうしません」(if it were me, I wouldn't do that).
ตัวอย่าง
「新しいパソコンを買いたいんです。」「パソコンなら、あの店が安いですよ。」
"I want to buy a new computer." "If it's a computer, that shop is cheap."
日本へ行くなら、先にパスポートを取ってください。
If you are going to Japan, please get a passport first.
安いなら、二つ買います。
If it is cheap, I will buy two.
ข้อควรจำ
- なら almost always needs existing context — you can't open a conversation with なら.
- Don't use なら for a condition that is certain to happen (「春になるなら」 is wrong — it should be 「春になると/なったら」).
ข้อผิดพลาดที่พบบ่อย
-
ผิด日本へ行ったら、パスポートを取ってください。
If you're going to Japan, get a passport.
ถูก日本へ行くなら、パスポートを取ってください。
With たら, getting the passport would happen AFTER arriving in Japan — which makes no sense. Only なら allows the second clause to happen first. Vietnamese speakers frequently make this mistake because Vietnamese uses a single word meaning "if" and doesn't mark the order of events in time.
-
ผิด学生だなら、割引があります。
If you're a student, there's a discount.
ถูก学生なら、割引があります。
After a noun, なら attaches directly, without だ. Learners often add だ out of habit from 「学生だから」「学生だと」.
