In Vietnam the 2026 JLPT is held on the same days as in Japan, Sunday 5 July 2026 and Sunday 6 December 2026, in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang and Hue. Each host university takes applications on its own schedule. At the universities whose notices we could read, the December 2026 test fee was 680,000 VND per level (Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City also charge 30,000 VND for the application form), and the December 2026 application windows had closed by the end of August 2026.
In Japan the 2026 JLPT is held on the same two days. Applications for the December session in Japan have closed (JEES announced the end of the application period on 3 September 2026), and the fee for both sessions is 7,500 yen including tax.
Outside Japan, the test is administered and priced by each country's own host organisation, so dates, deadlines and fees differ a lot, including the currency. The “Where to take it” section below collects the countries for which we could read figures on the host organisation's own site; where we could not, we say so instead of guessing.
Figures for Japan and other countries were checked against the official pages on 30 September 2026; Vietnam figures come from each university's notice, checked on 6 October 2026. Dates and fees can change, so open the sources at the end of the article before you apply.
JLPT 2026 in Vietnam
The figures in this section come from each university's own notice, checked on 6 October 2026. They reflect what the notices said on that date and may have changed.
6 December 2026: test sites, application windows and fees
Hanoi, N1 and N2 – Hanoi University (Faculty of Japanese): applications from 27 July to 21 August 2026, possibly closing earlier once 6,800 applications for the two levels are reached. Test fee 680,000 VND, application form 30,000 VND. Apply in person at Room 305, Building C; the university accepts cash only, not bank transfers.
Hanoi, N3, N4 and N5 – Vietnam National University, Hanoi: we could not find the December 2026 registration notice on the university's official website, so we give no deadline or fee. Check the host institution's own announcements.
Ho Chi Minh City, N1–N5 – Foreign Language Centre, University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNU-HCM): applications from 28 July to 28 August 2026 at the Sai Gon campus (10–12 Dinh Tien Hoang) or the Linh Xuan campus. Test fee 680,000 VND per level, application form 30,000 VND. Candidates buy and submit the form in person and pay by scanning a QR code at the office; the centre states that fees are not refunded.
Da Nang, N1–N5 – University of Foreign Language Studies, University of Da Nang: online registration and payment on the jlpt.ufl.udn.vn portal. The portal lists a 680,000 VND test fee and a 30,000 VND application fee but does not say which session they apply to, and we could not find the December 2026 deadline on the university's website.
Hue, N1–N5 – University of Foreign Languages and International Studies, Hue University: its notice of 7 August 2026 set the application deadline at 17:00 on 28 August 2026, with fees paid by bank transfer until 13:00 that day. Test fee 680,000 VND per level. Candidates pay by transfer, fill in the university's online form, then hand in the paper application at the Faculty of Japanese Language and Culture office.
The 5 July 2026 session has already taken place
For a sense of the timing: for July, Hanoi University took N1 and N2 applications from 24 February to 27 March 2026; the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Ho Chi Minh City from 09:00 on 3 March to 18:30 on 1 April 2026; and Hue's University of Foreign Languages until 17:00 on 15 April 2026. The test fee for that session was also 680,000 VND. Hanoi University is returning July N1 and N2 results from 28 September to 16 October 2026.
Things to know when applying in Vietnam
Vietnam has no single national registration portal: you apply to the host university for your city and level. Hanoi splits by level (N1 and N2 at Hanoi University; N3–N5 at Vietnam National University, Hanoi). Most universities take paper applications in person with 3x4 photos and ID; Da Nang registers online. Deadlines differ by university and several close early once places are filled, so follow that university's own announcements.
Some other centres and schools also collect applications on candidates' behalf, sometimes with an extra handling fee and their own deadlines. The official list of host institutions in Vietnam is the one on jlpt.jp (linked at the end of the article).
JLPT 2026 test dates in Japan
The jlpt.jp FAQ states that the JLPT is held twice a year, in July and December, and that in 2026 the dates are Sunday 5 July and Sunday 6 December. Some cities outside Japan hold only one of the two sessions.
Session 1 (5 July 2026): applications ran from 17 March to 7 April 2026 (until 17:00), with a fee of 7,500 yen including tax. This session has already taken place.
Session 2 (6 December 2026): applications ran from 24 August to 7 September 2026 (until 17:00), with a fee of 7,500 yen including tax. According to the JEES guide, applications may close before the published deadline because of test-site limits, and on 3 September 2026 JEES announced the end of the application period.
December 2026 in Japan: how to apply, the fee and the test voucher
Applying and the fee
Candidates in Japan apply through a MyJLPT account on the website of JEES (Japan Educational Exchanges and Services, which handles applications in Japan). The 7,500 yen fee can be paid by credit card, bank transfer (Pay-easy) or at a convenience store; group applications can only use bank transfer.
The test voucher
Test vouchers are mailed by 20 November 2026 and can be viewed on MyJLPT from 17 November 2026. If yours has not arrived, JEES states that you can print it from MyJLPT and bring it to the test site.
Eligibility
One easily missed point: JEES states that the 2026 test in Japan is primarily intended for non-native speakers of Japanese who are mid-to-long-term residents or special permanent residents under Japan's residence management system. For some candidates JEES sends an email asking them to confirm eligibility; those who do not complete it by the deadline cannot sit the test and the fee is not refunded.
Test hours on 6 December 2026 in Japan
N1 and N2 are held in the morning: the test room opens from 8:30 to 9:10 and the test starts at 9:10. N3, N4 and N5 are held in the afternoon: the test room opens from 14:30 to 15:10 and the test starts at 15:10.
According to the JEES guide, candidates who are not present in time cannot take the first test section; they may take the later sections, but those answers are not scored and the candidate cannot pass that session.
Where to take the test: country by country
All figures below come from each country's host organisation, checked on 30 September 2026, and are accurate only as of that date: dates, deadlines and fees can change, and many deadlines have already passed. Currencies are kept as on the original page and are not converted. Because the sites have moved on to the December session, most countries now show only the December 2026 session; where a country does not state a July session, this article does not assign July dates to it. For Japan, see the sections above.
South Korea
Host organisation: JLPT Seoul Administration Committee (JLPT서울실시위원회). The December 2026 session is on Sunday 6 December 2026, with start times of 09:40 and 13:40 shown on the site. Regular registration: 1 September 2026 09:30 to 20 September 2026 23:59. Supplementary registration: 28 September 2026 10:00 to 4 October 2026 24:00 (open at the time we checked).
Fees (VAT included): regular registration is 75,000 KRW for N1, N2 and N3 and 60,000 KRW for N4 and N5. Supplementary registration costs more: 82,500 KRW for N1–N3 and 66,000 KRW for N4–N5. The site currently shows only the December session, so we could not verify anything about the July 2026 session.
Taiwan
Host organisation: The Language Training & Testing Center (LTTC). The December 2026 session is on Sunday 6 December 2026; registration ran from 17 August 2026 09:00 to 31 August 2026 24:00 (Taiwan time), so it had already closed when we checked.
Fees: NT$1,800 for N1–N3 and NT$1,650 for N4–N5. Low-income households get a 50% reduction (NT$900 for N1–N3, NT$825 for N4–N5, for at most one level per session). The July 2026 session does not appear on the site, so we could not verify it.
Indonesia
Registration portal: jlptonline.or.id (the site shows the Japan Foundation logo). Test dates according to the site: 5 July 2026 and 6 December 2026. Registration deadlines read from the official calendar on the site: the July session opened 7–10 April 2026 at 09:00 WIB (depending on region) and closed 15 April 2026 23:59 WIB; the December session opened 31 August–2 September 2026 at 09:00 WIB (depending on region) and closed 7 September 2026 23:59 WIB. The site shows “PENDAFTARAN TUTUP” (registration closed) for both sessions.
Fees according to the site's FAQ: N1 and N2 are Rp 350.000; N3, N4 and N5 are Rp 250.000, plus an administration fee (the amount is not stated). The site does not say which session these fees apply to, so this article does not tie them to a specific session.
The Philippines
Host organisation: The Philippines-Japan Friendship Foundation (Japan Foundation Manila). The December 2026 session is on Sunday 6 December 2026 in Manila, Cebu and Davao, for levels N1–N5. Online registration ran from 25 August 2026 10:00 to 7 September 2026 23:59 (it may close earlier).
Fees: PHP 2,200 for N1 and N2; PHP 1,800 for N3, N4 and N5. The July 2026 session is no longer on the site, so we could not verify it.
United States
Host organisation: the American Association of Teachers of Japanese (AATJ). According to the jlpt.jp list, the United States holds only the December session, so this article gives no July date. The December 2026 session is on Sunday 6 December 2026. Registration closed on 16 September 2026 (it opened at different times depending on the test site; the site says it is closed).
Fee: USD 135 for every level. Admission voucher and test-date information: early November 2026.
Australia
Sydney (UNSW School of Humanities and Languages): the December 2026 session is on Sunday 6 December 2026, with registration from 28 August 2026 09:00 to 10 September 2026 17:00 AEST (or until places run out). Fees include GST: N1–N3 cost AUD 105 plus a booking fee of AUD 6.81; N4–N5 cost AUD 95 plus AUD 6.27. The UNSW page has no details for a July session.
Canberra (ANU) differs from Sydney: according to the ANU page, the city holds only a July session (Sunday 5 July 2026, N1–N3 only), states no deadline or fee, and refers readers to the Japan Foundation Sydney. If you are testing in Australia, check your own city rather than assuming Sydney's details.
Places without verified figures
United Kingdom: the SOAS Japan Research Centre (London) is a test site listed by jlpt.jp. We could not fully verify the dates, deadlines and fees, so we give no figures; see the host organisation's page (linked in the sources at the end of the article).
Mainland China: the host organisation is the National Education Examinations Authority (NEEA). When we checked on 30 September 2026 the site's server blocked automated access (returning HTTP 412), so we could not read its content, and this article uses no other source in its place.
Thailand: the only source jlpt.jp points to is the organising committee's Facebook page, which requires a login, so we could not read the dates, deadlines and fees.
If your country is not in this article, the official list of test cities and host organisations is on jlpt.jp (linked at the end of the article); that is the place to start.
The 2027 schedule and where to double-check
As of 30 September 2026 we could not find the 2027 test schedule for Japan on jlpt.jp or the JEES site. Once it is announced, the dates and deadlines will appear on those two sites, so that is where to check before you plan your revision.
GoMe Nihongo is not affiliated with the Japan Foundation or JEES, the organisers of the JLPT. This article only summarises public information from the official sites for easy checking, and any decision to apply should rely on the organisers' latest announcements.
